Allison Howie, visionary and practitioner, of Studio Joie De V is not native to California, but has chosen to plant her families roots in the lovely space we know as Santa Ynez Valley. Pilates did not initially come naturally to Allison, as she has always been involved in high endurance and high intensity events. She trained for many years as a competitive swimmer, that ultimately left her with a shoulder that just couldn’t take much more.
She came upon Pilates quite by accident, when a good friend offered her 10 remaining privates sessions, as she was about to give birth to her first child. It was then that she realized the power of her core, and the ability to heal her chronic shoulder pains through controlled movements.
She was given the priceless opportunity to work with Master trainer, Sarah Bertucelli, who expanded and harnessed Allison’s love of Pilates. Allison continues to expand her love of Pilates by practicing and blending modern with classical Pilates movements. She hopes to make Joseph Pilates proud of the legacy he has left behind by changing bodies and minds…one willing person at a time!
Alix Puchli has lived in the Santa Ynez Valley her whole life. She fell in love with movement at the young age of 3 years old where she trained in ballet, jazz, tap, and hip hop all through high school and college. She discovered Pilates after she stopped dancing due to a knee injury, and was immediately hooked! She was amazed at how the Pilates Method helped improve her posture, core strength, and mental well being after just a few sessions.
She studied Pilates through BASI (Body Arts and Science International) under the instruction of Constance Holder, Meredith Rogers, and Sarah Bertucelli. She is honored to bring her knowledge and love of Pilates to everyone she teaches.
